2018 Season Update

Hello Everyone!
As construction moves along with the Rhodes Tower, ODNR Division of Wildlife has worked with the Rhodes Tower staff to exclude the peregrines from using the building as a nesting location.

(Above picture of an exclusion net on the Rhodes Tower.)

Last fall Division staff installed two nest boxes on the Riffe Center, in hopes the peregrines would start nesting at this new location. As mentioned in previous posts, the Riffe Center is not foreign area to the falcons; employees at the building occasionally report that the birds perch on the ledges.

Unfortunately the birds have been seen in the area but not using the Riffe Center location for anything other than a feeding station. We have been monitoring the boxes and ledge area with a trail camera, but only pigeons have been spotted.

Since we have not been able to locate the birds we are unable to provide a live-feed camera for the 2018 nesting season. Until we can figure out if and where the falcons will nest downtown, we must rely on the trail camera photos and viewers in the downtown area to let us know of the falcons' whereabouts!

If you see the Columbus peregrines frequenting a particular building, we urge you to report their location by emailing karen.norris@dnr.state.oh.us
